We were stuck in stop & crawl traffic trying to find a place to park at the Purdue football game last Saturday when, all of a sudden,I hear this sound that sounds like something like a leaf or piece of paper in the heater blower. Turned off the blower motor and noise persisted. Then the noise grew to shat sounded like water boiling, checked the gauges all OK. Noise progress to a rattling sound and I finally found a place to get out of the traffic, stop and have a look. We determined that the noise was coming from the AC compressor clutch so I decided to get to our parking spot and deal with it there. Back in the traffic the light rattling grew to big rattling and then a huge squeal coupled with the smell of burning rubber and then, when the belt failed, silence. Fortunately the belt is AC only so we made it home OK.
Hopefully the AC compressor is OK and just the clutch need to be replaced.
