I was tightening the drive axle nut to spec torque and it just didn't "seem tight enough". So I took a look in the various maintenance manuals.

'73 MM calls for 110
'75-'76 calls for 140-280
'76 supplement calls for 110-140

All are listed as plus enough additional tightening to insert the cotter pin.

So after all the years since the above info was published is there a consensus as to the proper torque value to use?
