Regretfully I may be the resident expert on Cancer being in this fight
for the past 9 years.
I am writing this open letter to Dan and all others based on my experiences.

Even today I am going in for yet another radiation treatment AND chemo,
8 weeks on this trip
I have expert doctoring, live 50 miles from Strong Cancer center of
Rochester and have made that trip 8 times in the past 11 days.
Hundred of times in past 9 yrs. on and off. 5 operations and 4 chemo
bouts, 3 radiation bouts.

1- Once you have cancer, it is there forever. Remisssion maybe, but
gone, no.
Treatment may make it benign but it returns, in my case it has been
generally one year intense and one year free.
There is no such thing as cancer free. one can get free TEMPORARILY til
it returns

2- No one really knows what trips the bad cells that EVERYONE carries.

3- Get periodic PSA exam and colonoscopy. They do predict the future
accurately.

4- I have no solution to diet; have always eaten right, greens and
fruits over red meat. Got the big C.

5 -Some prescribe a diet which results in low pH, under 7, [amount of
Hydrogen] and some recommend hi pH, over 7,
pH of 7 is neutral.

6- Your life will never be the same.
You will live in a state of anxiety and doubt. You will be involved in
unwanted travel, disruption and upset plans.

7- No amount of financial buffer set aside for retirement is ever enuf.
Treatment is expensive.
Example- CAT scans are routine, cost about $2k and I have had many.
PET scans with the 3D image cost $10k and I have had 3 so far.
Insurance covers some but not all. Chemo infusions are debilitating,
time consuming and draining. SIde effects are not nice.

8- Support person is essential, I have the best in Joan.

All said, cancer can be survived. Early catching is important.

One must have a positive attitude and NEVER GIVE UP, NEVER GIVE UP,
NEVER GIVE UP
The real cure for it is to be positive. Don't ignore it but just defy
it. Do not ever get low and dejected. Attitude is mastery of cancer.

Dan is the simple , uncomplicated, down to earth brother everyone wishes
they had.
Dan is loveable and just a nice guy.
I wish you all the best.

God bless all of you

Thanks to all who signed a lovely card from last rally and especially to
those who thought of sending a special card too.
