I was getting ready to take the caliper off the PB, and on the end of the pins it floats on was a large 'L'. I got to worrying, is this thing left-handed thread on the driver's side? I've never seen a GM product whose disc calipers used an outlaw thread. Nor had the guy at the parts house when I ran up there to pick up a 3/8ths hex socket for the pins. So I popped them loose, righthanded as I had figured. Haven't looked at the passenger side one - that caliper works - but I bet they have an 'L' on them as well, which is confusing.
So a question for some of you old GM employee types. Did GM or GM-Moraine perhaps have an outfit called Lamson Fasteners make the pins? They had a foundry in Brimingspam among other places, and made some special hardened parts for Continental Gin Company, for whom I used to build cotton gins as a kid. It's silly - but I'd like to know why the pins have an 'L' stamped in them. Lamson was bad for stamping Ls into everything they provided.
