Just wanted to post some words of encouragement.
I installed quickly some remflex gaskets when I first got my GMC. I just pulled the manifolds away from the head, took out old gasket, and put remflex in there. it fixed driver side, but the passenger side still had a leak, but it was much better. I thought it could of even been the doughnut gasket.
3 years later the passenger side was now worse. so I called remflex asking for 1 gasket, but ended up having to buy 2. but they gave me a great discount.
I pulled the manifold, and can see why even the remflex did not seal. the mating surfaces were pretty bad. I was able to clean up the head with a 3m rolox, and I had the manifold dropped on a belt sander at a friends race shop. neither surface was perfect, but there was no cracks in the manifold.
I installed the new remflex gasket back, and installed a new doughnut gasket, flange bolts and springs.
no noise. so hoping they will hold for a while, I am pretty sure I would of struggled with any other gasket system on those two surfaces. I have never owned a v-8 without some sort of exhaust manifold tick/leak. I need to put remflex gaskets on my wagoneer.... but I cannot see the manifolds from the top with all the emissions hoses on that!
as long as you do not break any bolts off, it is amazing how easy of a job it is. take off the wheel and wheel liner, and you have really open access to the manifolds. especially on the passenger side.
