I've put about 38,000 miles on my 3.70 that I got from Jim K. And I'm always towing. Sometimes I have my 24 ft enclosed trailer with a car in it. My gross weight runs just under 20,000 lbs. I have a 78 Royale with a 403. I generally run at around 65 mph. Mileage wasn't affected. As I was using less throttle. 403's are of a big bore, short stroke design. The stroke is close to a Chevy 350. The 403 just has a sweet spot at around 3,100 RPM's. And really come alive. In the mountains. Shift it down .And run it up to 42, to 45 hundred. I never understood why GM put a 3.07 in something that weighed 11,000 lbs. ( Other then to save some cash. ) All trucks in that range had 3.70, to 4.56 ratio's. Love that 403 with the 3.70.
