Trying to find out what works what doesn't for anyone who is upgrading the vehicles.
What items should be just thrown away??
What Brake Pads are best???
Water pump?? original or Flowkooler???
Fan Original is fine or upgrade to electric???
Engine oil is Zinc really problem on the later years 455 77 403 78???
Fuel 455 1977 403 1978 these had been supposedly made for Unleaded fuel so can we assume the valve seats are lead free compatible?
Heater Hose ??? (Replace it all front to back??)
Belts whose are best?
Hoses whose are best?
Timing Chain ?? (Low mileage just do it or wait till 100k)
Rims 16 steel does anyone actually know which ones work and how to find them?
Radiator is the stock on usable for all around travel or Aluminum upgrade is needed?
Air Bags which new ones actually work (if you read online so many different ones but each have problems.)
Brake Booster (Use original or replace it ?? (Vacuum boost needed or not)
Brake Lines (Replace due to age or just based on what they look like)
Brake Pads (Does anyone make better pads or Ceramic pads??)
Fuel Pumps (In Tank, In-Line, Mechanical) Which is best option)
Headlights Upgrade (Truck Light LED anyone try these?)
EFI (What works and does it help mileage?)
Final Drive change (Is this really an upgrade or just something to do)
Ragusa tranny pan (Do people have problems with this as it seems to drop the ground clearance of the tranny)
Engine (Oil pump should this be changed to high cap)
Engine Intake Manifold 455 (RPM Low Profile or Edelbrock (Which is best and why what does it help or not)
Shedding weight (Rims to aluminum, Aluminum intake, Aluminum Radiator, upgrade Roof AC to modern ones, Any other ideas?)
Alternators (77 had 85amp and 78 has 140 should this be upgraded?)
Transmode/uplifted GMC (battery boost is not momentary like GMC motorhome models should this be changed)
Looking to bring these up to todays reliability for almost daily driver
Tires 16 inch (Whose are best and what is experience with costco tires)
Thanks hope people can expand on this or add-on
