So yesterday my wipers were stuck on after I replaced the high pressure lines and removed the inlet nipple and found out my nipple screen had been removed by some previous owner. I got an inline filter from Carquest today - I got a part number from this site but they didn't have it. I had them find another one with 5/16 inlet/outlets. Just ask for a transmission inline filter and make sure you install it on the outlet line and not the inlet, because these filters aren't rated high enough for the supply side.
EDIT: powerjon suggested Carquest TFK 85953. I was able to get 85964 so that's what I bought. Thanks Jon.
That didn't fix it, but I feel better with the filter anyway. On the driver's side of the wiper motor is a large threaded cap fitting. I removed this and pulled the valve, spring and ball (careful, there are 2 springs, a small 1/8" ball and a brass plunger) and cleaned this bore. That didn't fix it, and I found no debris.
Then I removed the inlet nipple and with a mechanics/dental mirror watched the inner valve rod as I moved the control lever. I could see that when it was fully closed, it didn't appear that the rod had traveled the full distance. If you look at this you will know what I mean. No pics; my wife would kill me if I got power steering fluid on her camera, and she wasn't home.
With nothing to lose, I used a small screwdriver to move the rod fully to the passenger side (closing the motor valve completely). Put it back together and now it seems to work fine after dozens of on off cycles.
My theory is that when I reconnected my inlet I did not have the valve fully closed and caused the valve to hyrdo lock, not fully actuating.
Time will tell if its fixed, but my money says it's good to go. Just thought I'd post this in case someone else has a similar issue in the future. Thanks for the input provided on my request for assistance yesterday.
