I had an idea.....
After watching the captain run the tug which hauled us on a river trip from St Paul last weekend, I got to thinking.... ehrn I was a kid we kept a houseboat on one of the Alabama lakes.
Since then, they have built Jones Bluff Lock and Dam, and the river is navigable again to Montgomery.  So I got to thinking.
What if one engaged a barge (r two or three) and a crewed towboat, loaded the GMCs upon it, and took a river trip?
Had I a houseboat anymore, I'd start at Montgomery, down to the Mobile River, up the Tombigbee to the Tenn-Tom Canal, up to the Tennessee, over to Cairo, down the Mississippi to New Orleans.  With stops along the way.  Cape Gorardeau, Memphis, Tuscaloosa, Mobile, etc.
So the question is, would it be a viable trip for summer fun?  A month or six weeks anyway.  How many GMCs would you put on a barge?  Would you rent a big genset and power, or roll your own?   Etc.
Anyone but me interested in this sort of foolishness?  You'd have to commit up front to a caryain amount of time and dimes.... but I don't see much of a limit to how many GMCs you could take - a full tow is three barges by five, waaaay the hell more than you'd need.

It's a long term plan/idea.  Interest?
