I have a 78 with a 403. When I found out what I had. I went to a good friend that had a salvage yard. He had a 455 in an Olds that had just come in. I went out and started it. Here was a core to start with. Then I became aware of the 3.07 final drive. So the first mod that I made was to get a 3.70 from Jim K. I pull a 24 ft enclosed trailer a lot. Gross weight runs at 19,000 lbs. I found that the 403 was up to the task. I found that my vac level went up along with my mileage. I took the 455 back, and got a 403 as a backup. Hope to never us it. Been in the Rockies west of Denver with my open trailer with a car on it.
