Jeff:
Restoration not finished yet but eventually my '69 Vette will be in my 22'
aluminum enclosed trailer (2400# empty) behind my 455 powered '73 Glacier
(26') with a quad-bag suspension and a gross towing weight around 6000#.
I have already towed more than that behind my 403 powered '77 Coca Cola
(also 26') equipped with standard suspension with little trouble over the
Appalachian hills (not the Rockies). Kept an eye on the transmission
temperatures and they never crept into the Yellow (stayed below 220
degrees). Hitch loading is the biggest issue: too much and the airbags lose
air (hitch drops), too little and you lose control, especially in the wind
or when passed by semis. Activating trailer brakes helps but spoils the
driving experience hence the need for quad bags.
