The last 2 195 stats in my Tahoe would cycle back and forth about 20 deg and overshoot / undershoot all day at steady state cruise. I put in a Stant Superstat and it is supposed to have a V shaped valve taper for better control and the least coolant flow restriction of any stat at Wide open. So far it's perfect and the temp has not moved one line with extensive high load towing up and down hills. Granted it's not hot out, but cold air at the radiator would make the cycling worse with the old units. SO... I think I read on the forum to not use Stant in the GMC due to the 'Fail closed mode'. Does anyone know if this applies to the Superstat as well or only the cheapies? I was thinking of trying a 185 or 190 in the GMC 455 with hopes of better coolant flow on the highway and more accurate control.
