Changed the oil in the coach on Saturday. Before I put the new filter on, for some reason I grabbed the oil cooler lines by the adapter, and tried to move them. Wait, did the adapter just move?

As I'm sure you all know, there's an "O" ring type of a gasket between the oil filter adapter and the block. It's the same gasket that's in the end of your oil filter.

When you change your oil filter, you pull out the gasket from the used oil filter, and put it in the groove on the top of the oil filter adapter. You don't have to do this every time, but best to keep an eye on it. Maybe that's why I had a small trail of oil down the filter.

The first time I changed the one on our coach was at Bean Station a few years ago. The old gasket was very hard and brittle, and all cracked. Since then I change it every other filter change.

What happens is that the gasket tends to flatten out a bit on its top side, and the adapter can become loose. I snugged it up almost a full turn before I changed it Saturday.

The adapter is held onto the block with a nut thingy, and takes a 1-1/4" socket to remove it.

I changed mine this time, but I will check the nut thingy each time I do a filter change from now on.
