So a couple days back, I was asking about decal/striping options for my 78 palm beach. I received, as always, a lot of great information, and thanks again for that. I ended that discussion with a comment about how blessed I was that my coach had been running great and that the stripe was even a concern....

Enter yesterday morning. I had a meeting at work in the morning, and was going to head out to a music festival for the weekend right after, so I thought I just take the GMC to work and leave directly. Just a mile before I got to work, (you can see where this is going) I heard what I guess was piston slapping, a loud pop, and all stop! Blown engin - exact diagnosis unknown at this point.

On the birght side, I was on a side street, that had plenty of room to coast out of the way safely. I had the Meuller (don't leave home without it!) towing guide, and after some light wrangling with AAA and a few tow companies, I was able to get it towed back home, get the minivan, and still make my 9:00pm show time. I missed my staff meeting, but let's just say that is in the plus column!

My wife said "Wow, you're really taking this well." I can't imagine better circumstances to have a major failure than my situation (no wife, kids, dog, 100 degree day, or major freeway, close to home, etc...). This was to be my last outing of the year.

Face it, it can happen. I've had it happen in brand new vehicles. I had already gone through the scenarios of how I would deal with it, and began reading on here about engine replacement options before I even bought a coach.

So again, thanks for this net, and all the tech info posted. Don't forget your towing guide. Ever.

Still smiling,
Galen

P.S. Stripes are on the back burner for awhile, Very Happy
