Further to mystory of getting thru New York in a Classic GMC. We probably
were not the first ones to do it but I suggest you do more research on
getting to the Marine RV Campsite
than we did. Pay the toll in New jersey - Do not try to enter by going
thru NY. The present cost at the campsite is $80 plus tax for Elect and
water. We drycamped in the overflow lot
for $50 plus tax per night. It was quiet. We parked next to Sailboats (dry
docked). The walk to the subway is about 1/2 mile and the subway takes you
right to the Ground Zero site area.
This was amazing, being there. Seeing pictures just doesn't do it. We
were among thousands touring it. After touring we took another subway to
Times Square. It is like HOLLYWOOD STYLE
all over the area that stretches for blocks. Giant screens of advertizing
on several buildings, Large crowds of people.
We took a lunch break in one of the many food venues. It was good and
priced within reason.
From there we walked to Central Park. Have a look at a map of New York
and see just how much land this park takes up. We decided to relax and
hired a Horse and Buggy ride tour of the Park - and covered about 1/3 of
it. The driver pointed out the different buildings and the Who's Who that
lives there. We were amazed at the size, the different activities it held,
the number of people walking, sitting, jogging, riding bikes, walking dogs,
having picnics, sailing toy sail boats, rowing boats, and more. . . .
Had to have a bathroom break and only way was to buy something in a
restaurant - so coffee and desert. We boarded 2 subways to get back to
ourstation and back to our coaches.
GLenn and Darlene's dog needed out for his potty break. Soon we were on a
walk around the marina to the Water front Taking pics of the OLD Ferry and
Train station. The Memorial erected in Jersey CIty on behalf of those who
lived in Jersey City and worked in New York, perishing on that day of
9-11.
After a long walk we settled in our chairs on the sidewalk patio of a Cuban
Restaurant and enjoyed a wonderful meal.
Good Night spent in a Classic GMC.
Today we left Jersey City (the way we should have entered it) and took a
number of smaller highways through Amish Countryside to Gettysburg.
