I've annotated and uploaded the Front Frame comparison photos. you can find
them here:
http://www.gmcmhphotos.com/photos/g6170-1974-1978-front-frame-comparison.html
If anyone needs the original HiRes un-edited photos, just let me know. I'll
try to email them to you.
I'm actually surprised that there are several differences that are easily
missed if you don't have samples side by side to compare.
The differences I noticed are:
- Upper rear suspension mount brackets
- Lower rear suspension mount brackets (various differences, including the
flat plate on early frame)
- Upper Suspension mounts attached further aft on frame
What I originally thought to be a difference in the shape of the "dog leg"
section of the front frames was merely an optical illusion caused by
lightling and poor angle of view. The main sections of the front frames are
visually identical with the above noted exceptions.
While taking photos, I scoured the front & rear frame clips as well as the
frame rails looking for a VIN. With all the online info stating where the
VIN is located, I was unable to find anything on the two frames I have. I'd
really like to see photo- documented evidence showing exactly where to
look. Perhaps the VINs will show up after I sandblast my good parts, but I
somehow doubt it.
