One reason the Prius batteries have done so well (very few ever replaced, even after 14 years) is that Toyota engineers only use them within the range of 60% to 80%. They could squeeze a lot more EV mode range if they wanted to, but probably at the expense of battery life. One reason Toyota has established such close ties with Tesla is that Tesla seems to have written the book on how to actively manage LiIon batteries to keep them alive longer as well. Nissan does not use extensive active management so who knows how long those batteries will last, but the car certainly does a great job for what it was intended to do.

My buddy who owns a Nissan Leaf (and loves it) says that when Prius cars start hitting the junkyards RVers should snap up the batteries. They are bullet proof. Now if the Leaf battery becomes available you can power the AC off of it!

How to recharge is another matter...
