With the twins arrival in December we haven't had much of a use for the GMC this year. Just too hard with two babies plus a 2.5 year old. So I did the worst thing imaginable and basically just let her sit. Yeah I did some stuff to prepare last fall, but I was still feeling guilty about it.
Got off of work early yesterday and spent much of the afternoon changing fluids and washing the old girl. Checked all my rubber and bolts, noticed I've got some mice that need killing, and decided that we needed to put her in the town Fourth of July parade this a.m.
Finally finished up and got her running, had to prime the carb and massage the Onan a bit, but she came up running nice and sweet. So we did some mild decoration this morning, loaded up 3 kids, and the wife, and we went down to the parade.
A 1 hour slow procession through our very hilly town, the GMC ran great the whole time, and the Onan ran the AC load nicely. I guess she has mostly forgiven me for ignoring her for about a year.
Pretty pleased overall considering I've never let her sit like that since I got her. Need to put new drums on the rear and probably pads on the front brakes, but otherwise I have no complaints. Maybe get out for another drive in a couple weeks, then we're hoping for our first family camping trip in September to a W&L vs Sewanee football game.
If everything checks out, it'll be a week long trip down to FL to visit with the in-laws over Thanksgiving and then next year we'll be back to a full camping schedule.
Can't wait. I bought this GMC with an eye toward having our kids enjoy it as they grew up. Finally feel like next year we'll start that process for real.
Enjoy the Fourth, happy Independence Day America, and enjoy those GMCs...
