I am considering using 3/4" oak veneer plywood for a replacement countertop.

I realize that the oak veneer is only 1/32 inch thick. I will finish it with several coats of poly ureathane.
I Will make a back splash from same material
I will finish the exposed edges with oak counter edge molding.

I have the poly ureathane left over from finishing new oak flooring in my house. The finish holds up very well on 3/4" solid oak with heavy foot traffic.

Any comments or suggestions about plywood in this application?

I know you cant place hot pans on it and you cant expose it to excessive water.

I considered using solid oak butcher block counter top from Ikea. It is much more expensive and very heavy.

Comments please. Positive or negative. Other material suggestions?

Thanks for ideas.
