While you are correct about replying directly to the digest message as being "bad form", it really is a good tip.

There's no need to mess with URL shorteners.
All you really have to do is put the ebay "item number" (in this case, 140744866242) in your message.
If you Google that number, you will get the ebay listing as the first or only result. It also works for package tracking numbers from UPS, FedEx, etc.
In Chrome and Firefox, just double-click on the number, right-click, choose "Search Google for..." and you're there.

I double clicked on the above ebay item number, and right clicked to search Google.
I ended up with three listings, two on the forum and the ebay listing.

Just for the record: The digest works really well for lurkers, and others who do not normally reply that often. But it might be easiest to use the web-based forum on the rare occasion you reply. That way you can place the reply somewhere close to what you are talking about!
