Those of you that went to the GMCMI convention know that I had a transmission problem and was only about 40 miles east of Denver when I had "no go". I was towed back to Longmont and left the GMC at Sonny's Garage in Longmont.
We unpacked and repacked into our car and went to Shawnee and stayed for 13 nights there in a motel. We were part of the advance crew so were there almost two weeks.
After returning back to Colorado, Stan Edwards and Richard Smith helped me pull the final drive and the transmission
The final drive lost its input bearing and some other internal damage. The switch pitch transmission has a sheared output shaft about 2" in from the connection to the final drive and some other internal damage. That shaft is probably about 1" in diameter and I have never heard of that happening before.
My good friend, Bill Bramlett, is rebuilding my transmission using parts from a junkyard tranny that I purchased.
Jim Kanomata of Applied GMC has graciously shipped me another 3.55 final drive at no charge under his great warranty program. One couldn't ask for a better supplier than Jim. I don't think any other supplier would do that for a few years old final drive.
Unfortunately I won't be back in Colorado for a few weeks to reinstall things. We are in Santa Fe trying to get some things done on our house so we can get it listed with a realtor.
I am slowed done a bit right now as I have just been diagnosed with pneumonia and it may take a couple of weeks for me to recover.
