Is this car the FWD one or the older RWD with the 318? One of Carol's relatives had a RWD New Yorker that I helped replace the alternator on. Don't remember all the details, but it wasn't too hard to do. I own a 1990 Fifth Avenue with the 3.3 liter V-6, a similar engine to the V-6 that some Dakotas had. The engine was a solid engine, but the transaxles weren't so good. I installed a rebuilt transaxle done by someone who knew how to fix the weak points. Put over 200k miles on it (guessing since the odometer was broke) before parking it. Liable to bring it back up as a back-up car. The older ones with the 318 were wimpy as V-8's went, but could be modified easily to cure that. Given my druthers, I wish I had bought a RWD one.
