Back in July '09, Emery reminded us of how to measure the specified angle
of a pork chop (torsion bar adjusting arm). I didn't pay a lot of
attention back then but over the past few days I've become more interested.
After the initial setting of the GMC's ride height, after installing the
1-Ton upgrade, I took a short test ride. When I checked the ride height
again in preparation for refining the alignment, I found the height 1-1/2"
to 2" lower than we'd just set it. Because I needed to order longer bolts
to gain more adjustment range, the project was delayed for a few days.

When the $4.82 each 1/2-20x3-1/2" Gr.8 bolts arrived, had their tips
rounded, and were installed, I found that I could not reach the specified
ride height. I still need to raise the coach about 3/4" on both sides even
though the pork chops can more no farther because they hit the top of the
crossmember.

Having found 5 pork chops in my GMC "junk", I hoped to have a ready
solution to the problem, so I searched out Emery's email. To understand
it, I had to follow each step precisely, laying the PC on a piece of graph
paper and performing the steps. The first photo in the album below is the
result. Unfortunately, I have one 16* PC, presumably from a Toronado, and
four 23* ones. I need two 25.5* or, preferably, 28* units to correct my
problem.

Anyone got an 28* pork chops? I sure hate to spend $500 for the adjustable
ones JimK's now offering. I might drive a nose-dragger for a while. :-(
