This all has to do with the 100 psi max setting for the wireless air controller. On my heavy 78 Royale the stock air bags need 91 and 93 psi to reach factory rear ride height. The airless system works flawlessly to do that, but there is not much head room for raising the rear to level. My on-board 120vac compressor running off an inverter will easily go to 125 psi, and the air bag will easily tolerate post 100 psi pressures, but the wireless air controller manifold will not allow that. It appears that by raising the stock rear air bags about 2.5" the pressure required for factory ride height will be less, leaving more up travel between whatever that pressure turns out to be and the 100 psi allowed by the manifold. I will report findings once I have a chance to do the experimentation.
There are so many advantages to the wireless air for our coaches no matter what kind of rear air bag system you have that it makes for a very worthwhile replacement for all three of the factory air control set ups. Yup, I know that it is no longer an "active" system automatically adjusting for changes in weight distribution like a properly functioning factory set up is supposed to do but I have not found that to be any kind of a real issue in nearly ten years of running a simple Schrader valve in the end of each stock air bag. The weight shifts all the time as the PS mounted under bed water tank on my 78 rear lounge Royale changes level in use. The coach doesn't move outside the factory ride height +- 1/4" allowance even though all that water from full to empty makes for a big change in weight. With only one line in from the compressor and one line to each air bag from the wireless manifold there are far fewer leak points than in any of the three factory designs.
