Was running the engine the other day - just to pump up the bags and generally get the cobwebs out of the cylinders.
Stepped around to the front of the coach and noticed coolant spilling on the ground.
Now this was basically a cold engine, so my heart was heading south in a hurry. The expansion bottle didn't have a cap, and coolant was just coming over the upper lip. Looking closer, there was also a lot of black or gray mold in the tank.
Today I pulled the plastic tank off, including the hose to the top of the radiator. The tank was still 3/4ths full. The coolant barely flowed thru the hose, so I'm thing there is a blockage in the hose.
Well, there was-sort of.
I emptied the tank and there at the bottom was one very dead mouse.
Apparently it was drawn to the sweet water in the expansion tank and fell in.
The body sank to the bottom, and when the engine was next run, would have just floated around, but when the engine shut down and coolant cooled and would have flowed back, the body blocked the hose. So, when the engine was run again, there was no room in the expansion tank.
Short story long, I grabbed up the tank and headed for my neighborhood ACE store, walked in saying "I need a cap".
They didn't have a cap, but did have a rubber plug that fit snugly. So, no more mice. I hope.
Just something else to watch for.
