Hi Jon,
Based on what my son found when he purchased a GMC 3500 truck with that engine, don't expect any greater fuel economy. It could turn out to be worse......

Speaking of Dave's 8.1 Vortec, does anyone know when/if he will ever offer some kind of kit? I have seen some pictures of the engine as it was ready to be installed and after installation in the subframe and man it looks like it could of rolled off the production line that way. Truly a profession installation.
I'm sure if he does offer a kit it will be costly but worth it considering the quality. I understand he starts with an complete "drop out engine" from a salvage yard and the few that he has have low mileage.
I have seen some low mileage "drop out engine" on ebay from $2500 to $3500. Man, it would be nice to have a 8.1L Vortec!
