After reading all the conversation on the trip to the car show, I thought I would add another sucessful trip to the mix. Our only two trips prior were to the Upper Peninsula of Michigan and my run down to DuQuoin last fall. This time we bit off a bit more. Over the top of Superior and then down into Minnesota to see family and out to South Dakota to see for the in-laws reunion. Just under 3,000 miles. Thought I would see at least one other GMC, but no luck. I had done a number of things to the big green bus, like tires and Eagles, fuel lines, electric backup fuel pump, grease all around, and refabed knuckle. By the way the knuckle was not worn as thought but an over bored replacement that Cinnabar was selling for a while. Our only issues were that the trans does not seem to want to start out in low and if put into low, not want to shift up. So, now that we are home the vaccumn modulator will get some serious attention. Also the heat of the Dakota's seemed to invite the vapor lock problem, but the back up pump back at the tank pushed the fuel through when at the dreaded stop lights or pushing a headwind at speed on the SD interstate. All in all the big girl never let us down in spite of our doubts at times and proved to be up to any task thrown at her. Fortunately she always had a place to plug in and the two roof AC's can handle anything out there. Of course if our perfectly running generator would actually produce electricity we could go off grid, but that may have to wait for next year. Of course if anyone has a suggestion to cure the Onan 6000, I would be forever greatful. Happy trails....
