Recently I received a request to do a design reminiscent of the ¹46-¹52
"Woody Wagon" produced by Ford Motor Company. I responded to the email
stating my typical fee. I also said if they wanted an image as a freebie
they'd need to wait a while. So far, no response. The reason I thought it
would take a while was because I'd need to take time to learn a new
technique or spend a lot of time creating a wood-looking fill for the
artwork (I don't use PhotoShop).

Well, the challenge got to me. That and my curious nature. I'm addicted to
learning new stuff -- it must be my computer gene.

The process meant a bit of research though I well remember riding in a
1951 woody when my dad was a Junior Legion Baseball coach. Back then Ford
was a corporate sponsor and each team had access to a wagon to be supplied
through a local dealer.

In the process of looking for information I checked the look that GM did
of the style. They tended to move from the wood look rather abruptly. Of
course, their treatment was quite different, too. Ford held on to showing
more wood tone even though they replaced real wood with a paint process by
1953. Even the Chrysler PT Cruiser Woody favored the Ford style.

One of the things to decide was how to carry out that look on the GMC.
With that in mind I present "Nostalgia: Woody's Return". For this the
window surrounds will need a color change to compliment the framing of the
simulated wood planking (unless you choose to use the real thing). Note
also that I put a model name near the kitchen window of the 23-foot coach.
This wasn't the typical location used on the GMC. By the way, I wouldn't
attempt this on a 26.

Scroll down the page and take a gander. Scroll some more and you'll spot
the trailer design I did for Ray Erspamer (which can now be seen following
them on vacation, finally).

I hope you enjoy it.

By the way, there are some beautifully restored woody wagons out there.
I'm waiting for Bill Brown to want one. This will be our second timeshare
unit.
