Great easy trip for Nor or Cen Cal GMC'ers.
Wife and I picked up three grand kids (including bicycles, skateboards and razor scooters) in Red Bluff last Monday morning and headed down to Atwater(between Modesto and Merced) and the Castle Air Force Base Museum.
I towed my jeep cherokee for hauling the toys and for side trips.
Paid $25 for full hookups including 3 free passes to the Museum.

Both the kids and the old folks loved the collection of World War II and later airplanes.
The boys, 11 and 8, bought models of their favorites; the SR71 Blackbird and the B36 Peacemaker.
The collection contained 3 of the 4 different planes that I worked on in an earlier life.
I was surprised that they didn't have an F8U Crusader.
It also contained all the Air Force planes that Ken Henderson flew. At least the ones I've heard him mention on this forum.

Short drive to San Luis Resivoir for a picnic at the visitor center; then on across on Ca 152 to Casa de Fruta and on to Pinacles National Monument. On the way out from Hollister we saw wild turkeys and had to slow down for a herd of wild pigs crossing the road.
The Monument campground has nice shaded full hookup sites, a swimming pool, creeks, many hiking trails, and telescopes to view the California Condors soaring above the cliffs. The hike to the bat caves was 8 miles round trip; we skipped that for this trip and headed for Monterey.

In Monterey we camped at Laguna Seca Raceway. Nice, shaded full hookup sites on top of a hill with great territorial views.

I was concerned about towing the jeep when I saw the uphill 16% grade from hiway Ca 68 to the race track and camp ground entrance.
No Problem going up or down.
Visited the Aquarium Wed afternoon and left early Thur morning for the trip back to Red Bluff.

The kids had a ball and are asking for another trip.

This was a great trip for you local GMC'ers with kids or grand kids; or by yourself.

The only bad thing on the trip was the $11.25 toll at the Carquinez Bridge.
