Took all day to change two fuel filters, get a replacement alternator and, later, a replacement battery. Last evening, the GMC began sputtering and it got so bad, I decided we would likely not make it home. Figured ethanol had loosened more crud in the fuel tanks/lines. Stopped in Baytown, only 32 miles from home. However, the alternator-used in my trailer that I replaced the O'Reilly one with, was not putting anything out, so we were running only on the new battery-definitely would not have made it home. Found, fortunately, an RV park in Baytown so had roof air.....had no water all week, the pump did not work and I blame that on the RV shop which may have turned it on by accident and it ran dry and also ran down the deep cycle batteries. Then, upon hooking up in Patterson, a copper line separated from a copper "T" and the plumber said he could not fix it. Also, the Onan did not start-fuel pump not pumping. JimK said use a auto store replacement, but I will look for an original Bendix. Thank God the dash air now works better than it ever has so we were okay.
The little test gauge I have shows the new alternator putting out at 13 volts which it regards as "low". Somebody update me on what that is all about. The engine turned over with a grunt first rather than the usual grrr,grrr,grrr! Yes, I did get the alternator pulley changed.
Well, it is time for a shower and a late meal before heading out in the GMC for College Station Texas tomorrow and my 50th college class reunion. Wish I had been smart enough to study mechanical engineering.......Thx, Michael at GEMRECS
