I'll certainly go along with Rob on this one. I can't come up with any logic at
all that encourages one to put the old oil back into a transmission after
draining it. There will still be a few quarts left in the converter in any
event (unless the converter has a drain plug and virtually none do). On the
other hand, if the oil is clear and red there is probably nothing really bad
that will happen. But why take the chance of introducing contamination? I
would just put in new oil. Nothing bad could possibly happen.

I don't often resort to logic, at least right away, but after talking to a
number of transmission old-timers, they agree that if you don't know how old the
fluid is (and I didn't- no records came with my coach) you shouldn't change all
the fluid and doing so seemed to all but guarantee tranny problems.
