I think we need a new category on the forum for Freak Events because this one cerainly is.

A metal valve stem broke on my Alcoa wheel, blowing out the schraeder valve so all air was lost. Fortnately, the coach was parked inside my shop. I was checking air pressure in the tire which appeared low.

A replacement valve has not been found here in Houston, nor did Southwest Wheel from which I purchased the wheels(sorry JimK, I had not known of you in 2003 when I bought the wheels) have any in stock.

A call to Alcoa(800-242-9898) resulted in a referral to Haltec (800-321-6471) for retail sales. Haltec is shipping me several valve stems, part no. TR-543 at $3.97 each.

It doesn't take much thought to think of how disastrous this could have been had I been driving. Check you valve stems carefully with a magnifier just to be sure you are safe.
Thx, Michael at GEMRECS
