We call it prindle here at the GMC plant(Chevys too.).I looked in the manual on how to adjust the pointer for the gearshift indicator and found a procedure that adjusted the shift shaft at the tranny. Then I put the Q. as a post on the forum. Mines been misaligned since I purchased 5-6 yrs. ago. While tearing apart the dash last nite(burrrr, its cold and mines inside,,,about 30-35 degrees, inside) the last step after every thing was disconected was to remove the last big piece. But wait,,,, a little cable attached to a lever and the steering column!!! Its the indicator. And,,,,,it has ajustment!!! Sooooo, if yours is not right, look under the indicator for a small cable leading down to the rotating part of the column(rotates with the gear shift). It has a small screw going through a small bracket the cable attaches to and is in a slot. loosen screw and adjust up or down in the slot. Tighten!!!! The bracket/cable atachment is located on the right side of the rotating part of the column. Now I didn't make an ajustment. I just removed it. But I was hopeing my observation and a post might help some one!,,,,,PL
