On our way back from Du Quoin, via New Mexico, I began to notice the chuff chuff of an exhaust leak. At first it only happened under a hard pull. Then it moved to any acceleration.
I have a TBI and so the choke stove is blocked off, and that little plate has blown out its gasket before. So, I reworked the plate. This time I let the RTV set a good long time.
About a week ago I decided to get gas for a trip to the Rose Parade and noticed chuff chuff. This made me a little grumpy because I do not like wheel well - header work. I got my trusty rubber hose and started listening. It was confusing and at last I realized that it was the intake manifold, next to the choke stove that was blown out. I already had a set of block off plate gaskets, and my friend Randy was luckily in California.
We pulled the manifold out and grrr. Cracked.
Drove to JimKs and got a fancy aluminum manifold. That killed a few bucks and an afternoon-evening, but it is pretty. We got it on, tested it. Randy drove off into the sunrise and Ruth and I started for the Rose Parade.
