Emery,
I installed new Zip Dee passenger and drivers side awnings last October with the help of a buddy of mine. My drivers side is mounted BELOW the drip rail as noted in the directions that came with the awnings, however there may be a difference in mounting depending on the age of the awning.  I noticed in a picture posted on the forum that the supporting arms shown folded up. My supporting arms are straight and just lay along the side of the coach when the awning is rolled up. This may or may not affect the mounting position of the awning itself. So to make a long story longer, I would call Zip Dee. They are very GMC friendly and eager to help.
