I was approached last Friday night at a hardware store in Michigan where I stopped on my way home with my GMC to get a few things to work on for the weekend.
A guy approached me in the parking lot and asked it I want to buy a parts coach. Intrigued, I went to look at it. It was his fathers and has now sat in his yard for about 6 years.
Went to look at it and other then being really ugly, the bones did not look that bad, I hope. I offered him $500.00 and he accepted.
I woke early Saturday and went to see if I could get the old girl started. By the end of the day I had the engine running, generator started, removed all the wheels and freed up all the brakes. Replaced all the wheels and tires with loaners from Ken W who just purchased all new Eagles. That night I tried to drive It but it was sitting in 6 ruts having sunk over the years and would not budge. The next day I pulled it out with my GMC to find I had no rear brakes. Turns out the master cylinder was shot. Found a new one at auto zone Monday morning, replaced the mc, bleed the brakes and off we went. Drove it to its new storage location Monday at noon.
Not sure if this is a parts coach or a fixer upper but the more I look at it, the more I think it can come back to life. I am currently trying to get my brother hooked so we can go broke together.
The moral of this long story is that I didn't know anything about GMC's a year ago. I bought my first coach last October. Following Jim Bounds recommendations, I replaced everything on the coach that started with a B. Brakes, bearings, ball joints, bushings, brake lines, brake cylinders, etc, etc. Coach runs great now. I haven't worked on a car since High School in the 70's
Last year when I found this website is when I got educated. I want to thank all you folks that participate here and on the photo site. I have learned so much in the last year I was able to take the paddles to this GMC, provided CPR and got a pulse. Now all it needs is a sponge bath and allot of TLC.

This is the first purple Palm Beach I have seen. Click on the link to see the ugly baby and check out the circular TV antenna on the roof. Not sure if it works or if I keep it but very space age for the 70's
