A while back I noticed a 1975 "Birchaven" listed on Craigslist. The ad had
two small pictures. One of the outside and one of the inside.

In the outside picture, it looks a lot like my 1978 Birchaven. It has the
same "78" style Coachman stripes and everything. It even says "Birchaven"
right on the side! But the one inside picture did NOT look like any
Birchaven I have ever seen.
I asked for a second opinion from Rob M and then asked for a volunteer to
put eyes on the coach. Richard Sowers stepped up and drove up (200 miles
round trip - Thanks Richard!) and confirmed it.
It is a 23 foot Avion.
Rob has said theses are "Rare as rocking horse poo." While not quite THAT
rare... it is believed that there where only 10 to 15 of them built. I
understand DaveG has 5 of them listed (now 6). He also had this coach
listed... as a 1975 Birchaven.
It is "a bit rough" and is located in Efland, NC. (A small town along
I-85/I-40 between Durham and Burlington.) Richard posted the pictures he
took of the coach:

I REALLY would like to have a 23 foot side bath coach. I would very much
like to have an Avion. After looking at the pictures of the coach, I did
the math... It would cost more to get this coach into my driveway than I
think it is worth... even if it was given to me! Being a rare model I would
feel that I would have to do the restoration "right"... (read as more $$$.)
I should be able to find a 23 foot "shell" closer to home that I could
modify anyway I want without feeling guilty. So I'll pass on this coach.
We all know that both Rob Mueller and Steve Ferguson have been looking for
23 foot Avions. I gave both "a shot" before posting this note. (Both
passed for their own reasons.)
I called Ken this morning and he still has the coach.
SO... Anyone want their own piece of "rocking horse poo?"
