We were getting ready to leave Santa Fe and were packing the GMC. We went in for dinner and I heard a loud bang. I went out and the airbag on the driver's side blew.
I went to Albuquerque to borrow a used on as I had found a new one in Denver that I could buy. The one I borrowed was rotten and wouldn't hold air.
So I cut a piece of 1" plumbing pipe to 13-1/2" long and went to Ace Hardware and bought a length of 3/4" threaded rod and two nuts and lockwashers.
I inserted the pipe in place of the air bag and drove 450 miles to Denver. I got the new airbag in this morning.
The ride wasn't as bad as I thought it might be. The worst part was I-25 through Colorado Springs, CO. The road was so wavy and bumpy that my GMC was bouncing from side to side. All in all it wasn't too bad. Not much worse than some Winnebagos that I have ridden in.
