In the last few months I have had an interesting time writing to many agencies that collect tolls for roads and bridges.
Many have recently (relatively) reworked the toll schedules so that a 23' GMC pays the same toll as a full size (Grayhound) highway bus.
The New York Thruway was one of the very few with a meaningful response. This is a summary of our interchange:
If I buy into the E-ZPass system, I will get a discount.
If I get the E-ZPass, I can get a special motorhome rate. There is a special fare schedule for motorhomes of 2, 3 & 4 Axle. This is a considerable savings over the simple tall vehicle rates.
The E-ZPass operator I talked to seemed to think that they could be talked to about the tandem as opposed to a dual axle. (Even if it didn't get through, you are still doing a lot better.)
As I have no reason to go back to New York in the near term, I will not be approaching this again.
On the Ohio Turnpike, we used to be Class 2 and now are Class 3, but the difference is on 4$ at the maximum toll. It is still a rip-off, but not as bad as some others.
