I wouldn't have thought they would open, but the other day I was driving in town
with a very gusty crosswing - up popped the "downwind" eybrow.  Unlatched, of
course.  I was thinking about using 1 or two gas cylinders that would go
overcenter and hold the lids open or closed.  Still think it would be a good
idea.  Have to have some way to pull it open, though.

I driven with them unlatched ( factory latches ) and they stay closed.
