Finally, after 8 years of ownership, I understand.

Those little tweaks to the Quadrajet last week truly transformed my GMC.
A 2 day trip for the 550 miles to Colville, WA. Overnight in Pasco,
WA. Did the same 550 it in one 11-1/2 hour stint on the way back. 10
hours in the seat.

There are some long, steep grades in Eastern Washington. The cruise
control was set at 60 most of the time and it probably didn't waver more
than 2mph from that on the steepest of them. AND I got to use an uphill
passing lane to get by an SOB! Wasn't the only vehicle I passed on the
trip but the UPHILL part truly amazed me.

Averaged about 8.6mpg, which is at least as good as it got before when
I'd have been struggling up some of those hills at 50mph. I didn't get
to figure in the last 200 miles of the journey because I haven't filled
the tank yet. I'd be surprised it wasn't closer to 9mpg considering it
was the only really flat part of the trip.

Got a couple of small Viair compressors to install soon. Going to gang
them up to work as one. The combined performance should be pretty
impressive. I'm going to replace the OEM pressure switch with a new
"solid state" one. The old one leaks internally and I can't get it to
stop. That should finally fix all the leaks in the air system.

I also just got my Ragusa screen door via UPS today. A bug-free camper
has been on my wife's list for a while. Looking at the craftsmanship of
this and I don't feel too bad about the stiff price.

I'm really pleased with how this motorhome is working right now. I
really should name it. Caught myself patting the dash pad a couple
times thinking, "Good old truck". Hell... if it had ears I would have
skritched 'em.

Later,
Kelvin
