My GMC has always run with no vapor lock on today's gas including gas with
methanol in it.
The 78 Blazer just ran from Portland Oregon to San Diego with no fuel
related problems using the carb that came on it from the factory.
Only confirmed problems I know of concerning current gasoline is the
methanol will damage some of the original elastomers used in carbs 30 yrs
ago. All carb overhaul kits now have elastomers that aren't damaged by
methanol. It will also pickup moisture out of the air and form compounds
that will damage fuel system metals. For that reason, I always try to fill
my tanks before storing and do not use vented fuel caps on my GMC. I use
Stabil in my home generator and lawn mowers when I store them. I am
thinking about putting it in the GMC but don't know how to insure it gets
into both tanks.
The fuel pumps on new cars are located in the fuel tanks for two reasons.
The gas in the tank cools them and they are located with baffles and in a
sump to keep them from running dry. If you want to ruin a EFI fuel pump,
operate it dry.
