OK this is one area I am not familiar with. In my past engine experiences when it came time to get something cleaned up the friend I worked with (his engines or mine, mostly his as he had a race car) took the pieces away and they came back clean.

So my question is to get an intake manifold cleaned up what am I looking to have done? Hot tank or sand blast or bead blast or something else? I am assuming when I get it off I will be looking to clean burned oil and exhaust deposits as well as general crud, off the intake so it can be checked for cracks and filling the crossover.
