Well all the discussion about the Land Speed Record GMC is interesting since I am probably the only person on the net that watched this thing being built from the ground up and was was there when it all went together. Some of the information so far is true, but most is just the dreams of a bunch of folks with too much time on their hands and a wish that they would have had the guts to make the try. Easy to find fault and make fun, but maybe Rob and others should put up or shut up. Dyno Sources is out of business, but I think that they gave it their all. They went to the flats for two years and if the motor hadn't gone in the second year it would have been something. Dennis, the driver told me that he was over 120 going into the first trap when he had to shut it down.
Jim K, if you want to go for it, I know that a lot of us will back you up. Yes there are special equipment requirements, and I have Dennis Schleve's number if you want to give him a call about what some of the requirements are to put a GMC on the Flats. He built and drove the coach, so he will know. Yes it is an official record, (check with Utah Speed Association) the motor "Moe" was a chevy 454, modified cam, with twin 750cfm edelbrocks, stock final drive, twin 4 inch exhaust. The interior was light, it did have a hard wood floor, porta-pot, portable stove, and sleeping hammocks, and special interior safety equipment required for the speed try.
