On Monday I got an email from Dan explaining why he didnšt make it to the
Calhoun rally with his land yacht. Below is how he told the story.

After the latest round of works, focus was on replacement of fuel tanks and
pumps, I set out for Calhoun, GA on the 22nd.
About thirty miles out, coming out of toll both on the FL turnpike, the
vehicle experienced a severe power loss. When trying to apply power, much
pre-ignition, bucking, etc. I managed to nurse it off of the turnpike and to
a filling station. While the vehicle would idle, the valves sounded like
they were rapping terribly. I could still maneuver, but there was no way I
would be able to continue the trip.
After consultation with Rob at Force Fuel injection, who had replaced the
tanks, we decided to return the vehicle to his shop. So as to not create any
further damage or risk a roadside breakdown, I decided to have the vehicle
towed. Amazingly, it did get on a 10,000-lb flatbed.
At his shop, Rob noted a low voltage (which I had not noticed) and after
starting it using the battery boost, tried running it with the boost still
on. The engine calmed down and behaved.
The conclusion was that the engine was misbehaving due to low voltage to the
engine computer. This is turn was caused by low voltage in the engine
battery. This is turn was caused by the wire from the alternator to the the
battery being disconnected. This was caused when the engine battery was
replaced on Tuesday. This was done because the engine battery was not
holding a charge. God only knows why that was.
Over the weekend, I took the vehicle about 120 miles down to the keys and
overnighted. It was an uneventful trip.....no more stress test failures. It
is now back in Miami.
The next outing will be about May 11th when the GMC joins the boat for an
extended summer journey.
