Hello all... specially Ken (he asked)
No more Omnistor awnings by me. Three reasons -
1. Carefree has changed fabric suppliers. My understanding is they can still do Sunbrella but have something else they are pushing and not too fussy about using what we want.
2. To my knowledge there are still 2 awnings sitting at Carefree but no mounting plates...at least they can't find any, apparently.
3. As much as I love my streamlined, tidy, tucked away in a nicely painted box, having NEVER had a wind problem I guess because I only put it full out when I'm escaping the sun it appears it is best to drop the sale of these and any other items I might get involved in supplying.
I recall clearly, old GMCnet posting will confirm, when there was no reasonable door rubber that actually worked on our oft out of shape doors. The product was found. Shortly therafter another party found something "better" and intonated that that was the only answer. Well, mine is still performing perfectly. I stopped selling the soft door rubber as the other product was now available from a full time GMC supplier. Next came poop grinders. Nobody sold them. Denny then came up with the kit... he actually bought a macerator from me to test on his kit. When he started selling the kit with the grinder I stopped as it was only done to supply an unfilled need. Need now filled so I stopped. Then we came to the awnings which Ken found but couldn't convince Carefree or anyone else to handle them. In consultation with Ken I had a run at it and took the chance, gamble or whatever you want to call it, convincing Carefree with guarantee. As a result we got them. A LOT of people got them. There have been very few problems. Most were dealt with quickly and/or effectively. Two awnings blew over the top in high wind gusts. Unfortunate, yes.
ALL things said there are still people who know the shortcomings of hidden leg awnings asking for them.
In my humble opinion they are still the best looking awnings out there... deployed or retracted. Looks are important too folks.
However as at least two full time suppliers are selling something else which has been depicted as being the only answer if someone still wants an Omnistor I suggest calling Carefree and working with them. I'm done.
And by the way, when all was said and done I never made a dime with all three products .... it was done to help and to fill a need, mine included on all three ...
Sorry about the rave and it's length but not about what it says.
Meantime I do enjoy peering in on the GMCnet, seeing posts from old friends and seeing the same problems keep arising. One day, soon I hope, when my life settles down to a slightly slower pace Ali and I will be back out on the road and look forward to seeing you all at rallies.
Cheers All.
