Stove Pilot Question [message #80803]

Our stove has pilot lights. The are a pain. I was told by a GMC friend, that you can turn the oven knob to a no pilot position. I looked, and sure enough, it is even written on the knob.

I have pushed, pulled and twisted to no avail. I have taken the knob off and with pliers pushed, pulled, twisted and murmured under my breath.

What's the secret? Wrong knob and mine doesn't turn off?

What is the work around?
