[GMCnet] Corrections to GMCMH model names [message #79728] |

This week several helpful people on this list have sent me photos of model
names on coaches. The most revealing was from an owner of a Glacier.
Comparing that photo with a few others I was able to figure out a few
things. The result is that what I had done needed to be redone.
The decals GMC used, of course, weren't intended to withstand more than a
few years with exposure to the sun and UV rays. What should have remained
clear has weathered and taken on the characteristics of a tinted color. What
should have remained white (the lettering) took on the characteristics of
the background color since the white pigmentation totally "evaporated".
It appears that the models with White RPO 532 had their model names placed
on a stripe of an appropriate color. Otherwise, if the contrast was good
enough, the white lettering was placed over the body color. At least, I've
seen photos of a variety of placements. The consistency was only placing the
white decal (with clear surround) where the best contrast would occur. The
230 and 260 designations seem to be treated the same; placed where it looks
best.
The result is that I've redone all the images displayed on my website. I
also want to emphasize that the images give an idea of the original typeface
overlaid on appropriate colors while appearing to be realistic.
If you're repainted your coach and haven't replaced the name, you may want
to consider getting the scalable vector files from me and having new vinyl
graphics cut. The reasons for the scalable vector format is so it can be
resized to the proportions you like without loss of character. The images on
the website shouldn't be used for that purpose.
I appreciate those of you that have been helpful with this project.
