Jay, this is a clip from Richard Archer (usually referred to as just
"Arch") one of our old-timers..
There are a number of dyes out there. I have used SEM and Plasti Coat.
Both worked well. Krylon now has one out called Fussion I think. It is
dye for plastic. You can dye seats and rugs with the stuff. It does not
sit on the surface like paint. It is absorbed into the plastic. I painted
my front endcap with it. Then I did something real dumb. I tossed it into
the loft of the barn for almost a year. I left the new colored surface
up. By the time I was ready to install it---well it was covered in bird
do do. What a mess! I got a bucket of water, some dish soap and a scrub
brush and went to work. I thought for sure I would have to spray it
again. I could not believe it---it cleaned right up. No stains or
anything. That's when I decided I loved the stuff.
One word of advice. It does not cover well. Don't try to spray one coat
to cover your mess.
It is very thin and will run. Use several light mist coats. Just what I
found out.

I've used the SEM, and it does, indeed, work well, and just as Arch said.
And use lots of plastic drop cloth for overspray protection, because it
comes out in a really fine mist that goes everywhere. I did my front and
rear inside endcaps, and they look good. Not really WHITE white, but
just a little off-white. Big improvement.
