Does anyone know how to remove the darned fan clutch from a '99 S-10/Blazer?
At the junkyard today I wanted to remove the CS-130D alternator and its
cast aluminum bracket. One of the fasteners was a stud which was long
enough that the bracket wouldn't come off with the fan installed and I had
no way to remove the stud. So I tried to remove the fan. But it's bolted
to the back of the fan clutch. OK, so I'll remove the fan clutch, by
removing the 4 bolts holding the pulley & clutch to the WP flange. Nope --
those 4 bolts secure only the pulley. There's a big hex shaft between the
WP flange and the back side of the fan clutch with no obvious way to
disconnect the two. Certainly can't hold the hex and back the clutch off
because the clutch slips.

I finally got the alternator and bracket off by removing the stud from the
back side of the loosened bracket with long lock-grips. But the fan is a
nice 19" molded plastic unit that I'd like to try on the Cad 500 if I could
get it off.

Another S-10/Blazer removal problem: The PS pump. Anyone got any idea how
to do that? I removed the 3 bolts I could find and it still wouldn't move
-- and MAN, those 2 behind the pulley (with no removal hole in it) are a
bear to remove with an end wrency. It the front fenders had been on the car
I wouldn't have attempted it.

My impression is that vehicle's designed only for ease of production line
assembly, with little thought to serviceability (sorta like my '91 S-10).

I'm going to have to go back to the junk yard before the Cad 500
installation can be completed; any help with those items will be
appreciated.
